Head Games

My latest for the New Ledger has to do with Dick Cheney and his effect on the Obama Administration.

My Pledge To You

I promise to be delighted whenever senior members of the Taliban and/or al Qaeda are captured or killed, and not to make the kind of derisive jokes about how “we always seem to be catching or killing the number 2 guy” that were made back when the Bush Administration captured or killed senior members of the Taliban and/or al Qaeda.

Quote Of The Day

“Now, the Obama-Biden pair that opposed the Iraq war and its tactics and predicted their failure is prepared to accept credit for its success.”

Who Saw THIS Coming?

Apparently, Andrew Sullivan had to be told to ease up on the Bush-is-a-crazy warmonger meme by . . . Mother Jones.

Remember When Democrats Were A PRO-Trade Party?

Boy, those were the days.

Thank Heaven For Outsourcing

Jonah Goldberg reads Thomas Friedman so that the rest of us don’t have to–though I suppose I ought to mention that I read Friedman before having read Goldberg.

Responding To The Underpants Bomber: The White House Fails The Test

The New York Times does a good job in detailing the White House’s overview of the details of an unclassified memorandum, discussing the various national security failures that allowed Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab the opportunity to try to blow up Northwest Flight 253.

Epic Intelligence FAIL

You know, between this, and the fact that Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab’s father sought to warn the United States and other Western authorities about his son’s increasing radicalization, the fact that transportation safety authorities failed to thwart Abdulmutallab from boarding Northwest Flight 253 becomes increasingly shocking.

And Speaking Of Janet Napolitano . . .

President? Seriously?

David Brooks Has It Half Right

Concerning the reaction to the Obama Administration’s initial “the system worked” claims in the wake of the attempted bombing of Northwest Flight 253, Brooks writes:

The Difference Between Markos Moulitsas And Patriots

“I feel nothing over the death of merceneries [sic].”

“Systemic Failure”

There can be little doubt that the attempted bombing of Northwest flight 253 exposed a significant hole in our airline security procedures.
