Is Sue Lowden the Next John Thune?

In 2004, John Thune made history, and became a Republican star, by defeating sitting Senate Democrat Leader Tom Daschle in South Dakota. Daschle’s defeat was the first since 1952 in which a sitting party leader was defeated. This year, in the desert of Nevada, history may repeat itself. Current Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is facing an excruciatingly tough race to remain in Washington with several Republicans vying to be the next king killer. Chief among them is former State Senator Sue Lowden.

Lowden recently sat down with TNL for a short interview where we asked her how she viewed Harry Reid.

“When you’re from a western state that’s center-right, it’s very hard to be carrying a liberal agenda on your back and be a leader of that agenda,” Lowden said. “Harry Reid is following anything that the Obama administration asks him to do, and he, along with Nancy Pelosi, are leading America down the wrong track. He’s lost touch with the people here.”

A recent Public Opinion Strategies poll shows that Lowden is right. A whopping 80% of Nevadans believe that their state is on the wrong track. Harry Reid’s favorability ratings are horribly low,…

Election Night in Texas: The Perry vs. Hutchison GOP Primary Showdown

Today across the Lone Star State, Republicans took to the polls to decide the winner of the toughest GOP primary Texas has seen. The battle between incumbent Rick Perry, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and political activist Debra Medina has been a bare-knuckled brawl that may go into overtime tonight if no one can get to 50% plus one.

Tonight, live from the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, just outside Austin, I’ll be bringing you live updates from the Rick Perry watch party. We’re set up in a Texas-sized pavilion on the banks of Onion Creek. Granger Smith, and Stephanie Daulong (of American Idol fame) will be be providing live music and entertainment. There are several large, flat-screen TVs set up with live updating election returns from the Texas Secretary of State’s office, and nervous and excited supporters filing in for some BBQ.

Although this is technically a three-way race, the real showdown tonight is between Rick Perry and Kay Bailey Hutchsion. The Perry campaign has done a wonderful job framing this entire race as a battle between Texas and Washington. Texas – the successful economically sound, conservatively run example of Republican done well, and Washington –…

Charlie Crist Still Thinks Stimulus Was a Good Idea

Charlie Crist, live from the land of “I still don’t get it,” reiterated his support for last year’s Obama stimulus package saying that taking the stimulus money was the “responsible, right thing to do.” He added, “I don’t apologize for it at all. It was the right thing to do. We needed the money.”

Crist’s support for the hugely unpopular stimulus plan has been one of the chief reasons that his conservative challenger, Marco Rubio, has been able to overtake Crist in the race for US Senate. Starting with as much as a 30-point lead in early polling, Crist is now falling behind Rubio among Republicans in the Sunshine State. Crist’s statement today is surely music to the ears of the Rubio campaign who will rightly point out that Crist continues to be out of touch with the Floridians he’s seeking to represent.

Crist, of course, remains steadfast and stubborn saying that “Rubio’s criticism is irrelevant.”

“It doesn’t matter. Not one iota,” Crist said. “He’s wrong, and I’m right.”

This is why a whopping 86-pecent of Americans believe the government is broken. When their elected officials repeatedly refuse to listen to them, what else can they think?

Fiorina Steals Scott Brown in Deceptive Online Ad

Carly Fiorina is no newcomer to controversy in her campaign for US Senate in California. The former HP CEO stirred the pot with her now infamous “demon sheep” video chiding her newest opponent, Tom Cambell, for not being the fiscal conservative she claims to be. Well, now Fiorina is at it again.

In a new web ad, Fiorina uses an image of Scott Brown that says, “Thank you Massachusetts,” then it flips to an image of Fiorina and says, “Now on to California. Join the path to victory.” Seeing the two candidates in close succession in a ad like that might lead you to believe that Scott Brown has endorsed Carly Fiorina in her Senate bid, and that’s exactly what they want you to think. But he hasn’t.

“It’s crafted with this wink wink, nudge nudge that’s meant to imply something that it doesn’t explicitly say,” said Joshua TreviƱo, a spokesman for DeVore. “You don’t appropriate the symbol of Scott Brown and claim it as your own without validating him as a source.”

Trevino is right. The ad is deceptive. Of course, I’m sure they asked Scott Brown first if they could use his photo…

The Next Scott Brown
