Barack Obama. That’s who:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Sunday shows that 26% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty-two percent (42%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -16 (see trends).
According to a left-wing polling group, a majority of Americans now believe the US is less respected in the world than we were 13 months ago. That’s not a surprise, but it is a surprise that the left-wing polling group finds it a surprise.
The current president did NOT campaign, and was not elected on, a promise to make the US more respected by other nations. Rather, he promised that we would be more loved by other nations. As he said, and as the people believed, when you do things that earn the respect (and perhaps the fear) of others, they won’t necessarily like you. Among those things are to take a robust view of national security and of defending our national interest. So the current president’s plan was to be loved more by being respected less.
When you set out to make people love you more, and you do it by taking actions that cause them to respect you less, you shouldn’t be surprised by the outcome. You generally end up with neither love nor respect. Machiavelli wrote that 500 years ago. It stuns me that people have to keep relearning it the hard way.
Doesn’t John McCain wish that we could re-run the 2008 Presidential election right about now?
Barack Obama now has a negative approval rating in every state he flipped from the Bush column to his in 2008. In each of those places his level of support is now in the 44-46% range. It’s probably a good thing he doesn’t have to run for reelection this year. He can only hope things start turning around for him once the midterms are in the rear view mirror, much as they did for Bill Clinton.

Congress is now very unpopular:
Voter unhappiness with Congress has reached the highest level ever recorded by Rasmussen Reports as 71% now say the legislature is doing a poor job.
That’s up ten points from the previous high of 61% reached a month ago.
Only 10% of voters say Congress is doing a good or excellent job.
Nearly half of Democratic voters (48%) now give Congress a poor rating, up 17 points since January. The vast majority of Republicans and voters not affiliated with either party also give Congress poor ratings.
Seventy percent (70%) of voters say Congress has not passed any legislation that would significantly improve life for Americans, up 10 points over the past month and the highest level of dissatisfaction measured in regular tracking in over three years. Only 15% say Congress has passed such legislation.
Forty percent (40%) of voters nationwide now say it is at least somewhat likely Congress will seriously address the most important issues facing the nation. That’s down from 59% last March. Only 9% say it is Very Likely Congress will address these issues.

I think it is fair to ask why the White House thinks that it can pass anything these days:
The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Monday shows that 22% of the nation’s voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. That matches yesterday’s result as the lowest level of strong approval yet recorded for this President. Forty-one percent (41%) Strongly Disapprove giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19 (see trends).
The only day that Barack Obama’s Approval Index ratings were lower than today was last December 22. Like today, that came at a time when the President was making a strong push for his proposed health care legislation. Most voters have consistently opposed that plan.

According to the latest report issued from The Barna Group, the best analytical group out there when it comes to faith issues, the 40% of President Obama’s support that came from born-again Christians in 2008 has diminished rapidly, particularly among evangelicals:
Most Americans are not satisfied with the job the president is doing…The picture is less rosy when looking at the ratings given to the president by committed Christians. Among evangelicals, only 18% are satisfied (just 6% are “completely satisfied”) while 69% are dissatisfied (including 38% who are “completely dissatisfied”). Among all born again Christians – one-fifth of whom are evangelicals and four-fifths of whom are not – the ratings are not quite as scathing, but are notably worse than those provided by non-Christian adults: 35% are satisfied and 36% are dissatisfied. Among adults who are not born again the president fares much better, with such people twice as likely to be satisfied as dissatisfied (48% satisfied, 24% are not).
My question would be: what is it that President Obama has done that has resulted in this downturn? He hasn’t been particularly aggressive on social issues at all as president, with the exception of the Mexico City reversal…
