Engaging Iran

It would appear that the Obama Administration’s efforts to establish a dialogue with Iran have run aground. Instead of acknowledging that any efforts to engage have failed thus far, the Administration chooses instead to offer us rationales and excuses that make no sense whatsoever:

Can The North Korean Government Do ANYTHING Right?

Do I really need to answer that?

Hitchens Sums Things Up

North Korea is racist, militaristic, possessed of an utterly brainwashed citizenry that is brutally oppressed in every way imaginable, and so completely malnourished that the average North Korean is six inches shorter than the average South Korean.

Obama Writes Kim Jong Il a License to Terrorize

If words and facts mean what they say, there is no explanation for President Obama’s decision but that his desire to appease Kim Jong Il means more to him than a principled response to terrorism. If it is not the sponsorship of terrorism for North Korea to supply man-portable surface-to-air missiles and rocket-propelled grenades to terrorists — terrorists who may well intend to use them to kill Americans, the law has no meaning, and neither does America’s deterrence of such sponsorship. It is difficult to understand why the President has decided not to list North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism as the consensus grows that North Korea has recently and repeatedly done precisely this.

Arms and Taiwan: The US Must Respond to China’s Nuclear North Korea

If we’re really serious about putting pressure on China, boosting Taiwan’s security, and giving Taiwan a deterrent that doesn’t depend on the U.S. Navy, then we should quietly assist Taiwan to acquire the technology to develop its own ballistic missiles, and do nothing to discourage its acquisition of nuclear weapons. Just like China did for North Korea.

Earning the Nobel: Obama and North Korea’s Human Rights

If, having read and listened to those accounts, you still believe that this is a regime with a sincere interest in the preservation of human life, and therefore in the preservation of peace — if you still believe that this regime is amenable to the transparency that will be needed to verify North Korea’s disarmament — please show me what I’m missing.

We Can’t Trust Kim Jong Il, Or the People Who Do

Who still denies that the North Koreans are trying to develop a uranium bomb? Two groups, mainly: inflexible North Korea apologists, and those who are still so obsessed with hating George W. Bush that they’re willing to overlook Kim Jong Il’s flaws. The latter group is rapidly fading into irrelevance. The former group ought to.

Axis of Evil Watch: N. Korean Arms Shipment Destined for Iran, Via Chinese Airspace

A look at the great circle route between Pyongyang (ZKPY) and Tehran (THR) explains why China’s “three monkeys” approach to North Korean proliferation is so helpful to Kim Jong Il’s sanctions-busting. And that’s a generous interpretation, given the evidence that China actively helps North Korea acquire and proliferate weapons.

North Korea Caught Smuggling Weapons: Iran Likeliest Destination (UPDATED)

North Korea, which was removed from the list of state sponsors of terrorism last year, has been caught — wait for it — smuggling weapons again.

Has the Obama Administration Basically Returned to the Late-Bush Position of Jaw-Jaw-Jaw-Jaw on North Korea?

In a word, no, but it would hardly matter if we were.

North Korea’s Ajumma Rebellion

A sort of tea party movement may be breaking out today in the least likely of all places.

North Korea’s Economic Upheaval

Keep a close eye on North Korea over the next few days. On Monday, its citizens learned that all of their savings had been wiped out by their government’s arbitrary decision to replace all currency in circulation with new bank notes, whose new denominations will drop two zeroes.
