If we had a press corps dedicated to doing its job and doing it right, it would be asking Nancy Pelosi why she is now going back on her promise to bring about an ethical renaissance on Capitol Hill. After all, one cannot bring about an ethical renaissance while at the same time allowing Charlie Rangel to keep his chairmanship.

Why is Charlie Rangel allowed to keep his chairmanship of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee–which, in the event you didn’t know it, plays a decisive role in crafting health care legislation–when his continued presence on the committee makes a mockery of Nancy Pelosi’s claim to keep things on the up and up in Congress?

Dead Public Option Sketch

There has been a lot of back-and-forth on the issue of the public option, with most of the back-and-forth coming from the White House. Someone in the Administration–lately, both Secretary Sebelius and the President himself–goes out and basically states that the public option is not that important, and then the White House walks back the cat when liberals raise their voices in fury, and tell us that the public option is most certainly on the table, that no one should think otherwise, and that all talk to the contrary is just media generated hype.

Obama’s JFK Mistake: All Glamour, No Game

When it comes to domestic policy, thus far there is no presidency that Barack Obama’s resembles more than John F. Kennedy’s. This is not a positive statement: Kennedy, equipped with a similarly strong majority on Capitol Hill, was nonetheless a legislatively frustrated president. By mismanaging his health care insurance reform, Obama now risks the same thing.
