The Misery Of Roxana Saberi

Roxana Saberi, for those who do not know, is an NPR journalist from Iran. She has been detained on charges of spying since January of this year, and she has just been sentenced to eight years in prison.

Obama And Chavez: BFFs?

I am in favor of talks with Cuba because I believe that such talks, which would include a discussion of human rights abuses in Cuba, would help put renewed pressure on the Cuban regime to liberalize, change and reform.

Guns To Mexico: Inflating The Figures

The degree to which Mexico is increasingly resembling a failed state has gotten a lot of discussion in foreign policy circles, but not nearly as much discussion as it needs. Mexico has attracted the attention and interest of the Obama Administration, which is a good thing, but unfortunately, the Obama Administration appears to be playing fast and loose with the facts when it comes to the state of affairs in Mexico.

Reaganism And Foreign Affairs

I enjoyed reading this appreciation of Ronald Reagan by William Inboden, but what he terms as “the limits of realism,” I would term as realism’s ultimate triumph.

Pirates Defeated

Kudos to the Navy in general and the Navy SEALs in particular. The Financial Times has a good story on the matter, including a description of the President’s role in authorizing the rescue:

Omidreza Mirsayafi

Remember his name:

Resolved: Hugo Chavez Actually IS A Dictator

There has been, quite amazingly, a great deal of argument concerning whether Hugo Chavez is a tyrant. I would have thought that the issue was settled a while ago, but since there still appears to be doubt, let’s turn to the Financial Times, which gives us details of the latest outrage from Venezuela:

Dear, Sick Leader

Not looking too good, eh?

The Obama World Apology Tour

It may charm the planet, but it’s setting us up for a fall.

Cheap

Remember how “stingy” the Bush Administration was accused of being during the Asian tsunami back in 2004?
