Jail Time For People Without Health Insurance?

by Pejman Yousefzadeh

You’ll notice that the President is not exactly ruling it out, expressly.

As mentioned before on this blog, the difference between purchasing car insurance and health insurance is that when one purchases car insurance, it is primarily for the purpose of making sure that the other party in an accident gets reimbursed if one is at fault. But as long as we are making the car insurance analogy, let it be noted anew that car insurance companies get to drop bad drivers, because bad drivers are an insurance risk. The Obama Administration, however, doesn’t want to allow people with pre-existing conditions to get dropped, even though strictly speaking, people with pre-existing conditions are also insurance risks.
