“Break[ing] A Few Eggs To Make A Permanent Welfare State”

by Pejman Yousefzadeh

That’s the description of the health care “reform” process, not by me, but by John Cassidy, who counts himself as a supporter of the Obama Administration’s vision of health care reform.

I can understand someone supporting the Administration because he/she feels that the Administration is enacting the right policies. I cannot, however, understand someone supporting the Administration because he/she is excited that the enactment of the Administration’s health care legislation may lead to permanent Democratic political majorities, despite the fact that the legislation in question represents “a costly and open-ended commitment,” one that is untenable, thanks to the current fiscal situation in the United States.
