I wish I had the time to go point by point to explain why Joel A. Harrison, PhD, MPH is wrong. But his arguments boil down to this: "People can't save. People trust their doctors. People are too stupid to make their own medical decisions, so they need government to do it for them." He parrots all the lies and myths that Statists have used to justify socialization of medicine for decades!

Medicare alone is a good example of why medical costs have gone up: Medicare has the government authority to declare that they will only charge $X for a procedure that costs more than that, and that the doctor is forbidden to pass on the costs to the patient. Thus, doctors are forced to pass on the costs to insurance companies and to the uninsured! Is it any wonder that costs have been going up?

Our State and Federal governments have been strangling our health care for decades with all sorts of regulations and financial burdens. If we want better health care at lower costs, then we need to cut away these burdens and let individuals choose their insurance and their care.
