The Nanny State Goes On The Road

by Pejman Yousefzadeh

Heard of the California “Cool Cars” initiative? It is meant to ensure that cars prevent 60% of the sun’s energy from entering into a vehicle by 2016, which means that cars ought to be outfitted with reflective specs of metal oxide.

The problem is that the metal oxide interferes with the working of cellphones, radios, GPS systems, and other tech items whose workings we take for granted. (California’s Air Resources Board informs us that phones will work fine, but one has to wonder about that.)

Of course, implementing the “Cool Cars” initiative will add to the cost of all vehicles. Just another way in which the Nanny State imposes a hidden tax on people.
