There is very little bi-partisanship so far in Washington during the Hope and Change Era, but Democrats and Republicans came together this week in a rare instance, not to pass meaningful legislation, but to rebuke one of their colleagues for his foul mouth. Congressman Alan Grayson, a Democrat from Florida referred to Fed Chairman Bernanke’s advisor Linda Robertson as a “K Street whore” in a recent radio interview making the rounds on Capitol Hill.
Outrage was universal.
“There’s no call for that language. No call for it. That’s absurd. If he was standing here now, I’d say that to him,” said Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-N.J.)
“He’s out of control,” added Washington Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, who is vice chairwoman of the House Republican Conference.
“Is this news to you that this guy’s one fry short of a Happy Meal?” asked Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.)
The Congressman’s most recent remarks are just the latest in a string of unexplainable quotes. On a recent interview with MSNBC, Grayson implied that former Vice President Dick Cheney was a vampire saying, “I have trouble listening to what he says sometimes because of the blood that drips from his teeth while he’s talking.” He then said of Cheney, “He’s angry just because the President doesn’t shoot old men in the face.”
Grayson also recently said, “Republicans’ health care plans were for Americans to ‘die quickly,’” and that the current US healthcare system (acknowledged by many as the best in the world), is a “holocaust in America.” He got smacked by the Anti-Defamation League for that one.
Well, thank you Congressman Alan Grayson, for doing something that no other Democrat in Washington can do, bringing together everyone from both sides of the aisle.
