A professor assigned "The Lexus and the Olive Tree" for my intro international relations course, which is the only work of Friedman's I've read, which no doubt communicates my assessment of his ideas, if not his capacity at conveying them, or lack thereof.

While his conversational style is grating, Friedman does write for a lay audience who would otherwise skim over long tracts riddled with academic jargon, if they bothered to read them at all.

The quotes you dropped in your introduction led me to believe this essay would be a provocative critique of a political culture that elevates commentators of Friedman's ilk. Unfortunately, I found myself skimming over most of the body as it appeared you were making a tedious argument that all of your readers no doubt accepted, that Friedman's writing leaves much to be desired if one holds him to the standard of academic or literary prose.

Your conclusion is a worthy appeal for better essay writing in the public forum. For this medium, my advice is this: arguments are made best when made brief.

Have you heard the expression ... "Whenever YOU think the problem is out there - that thought is the problem." You're obviously fairly obtuse, so I'm going to explain it. You have been guilty of inflicting an awful lot of discomfort on yourself with your obsessive hatred for another human being. I hope you come to realize what you're doing to yourself . Afterall do you think that if Friedman read your piece that he'd be the least bit bothered by it. Please don't flatter yourself

All I know is that Friedman's thought processes are always mixed up, which consistently leads him to the least-reasonable of conclusions. I stopped reading him shortly after I discovered him.
