My daughter Madison was born on 5/31/09 at almost 21 weeks gestation. She was breathing, had a strong heartbeat, was moving, nad died in our arms over 2 1/2 hours later because the hospital in NY refused to treat her (StonyBrook University Hospital, New York USA). Their policy as we were told is 23 weeks. We have been devastated to say the least. We also have pictures of her alive, we were also told by the nurse that she was more developed than older babies currently in the NICU.

My heart goes out to Jayden and as Madisons expected delivery date in Oct 2009 gets closer i get more anad more distraught and disturbed at the way we we were treated. How dare the hospitals not inform patients (in the USA) that there is a "born alive infants protection act of 2002". Had we known about this act we would have fought harder for her to be treated. The act states that any child born alive, no matter what gestational age, so long as there is a heartbeat, movement, breathing or any umbilical cord pulsation, MUST BE Medically TREATED.

If and when we try again i promise i will have this document printed out ( in case if i go into premature labor). I will have my lawyers with me at the hospital, and i will call any and all news media that will listen. Video camera is a must. Hospitals are more worried about law suits then they are saving lives. I hope and pray that this does not happen to anyone else in the future.

Christine Sheridan
Nesconset, NY USA
