Robert Novak, RIP

by Pejman Yousefzadeh

Democracy in America says much of what I want to say. I disagreed with Novak on a ton of issues, especially his foreign policy views (whatever one might think about most recent Iraq war, the first one, to remove Iraq from Kuwait, was so blatantly in our national interest that Novak’s opposition to it–an opposition I do not believe he ever recanted–was and is mind-boggling). Still, he was a first-rate journalist, and for all of the right reasons, a Washington institution. As Democracy in America puts it, “Washington can breath easier now that he’s gone; Americans are worse for the loss.”
