Nothing adds up. Imagine the proverbial 'genie out of the bottle' that will be known heretoforth as cap & trade. You think the math is fuzzy now. After the malfeasance the American public is so willing to take right where.....you get the point.

Unspeakable and unfathomable madness is getting waltzed, wined and dined. And the common folk will be taking up residence in any given vacant mall across the US. And why not? What a perfect place to install homeless shelters. Wonder if the census department will consider them under 'one roof.'

How does a loss of 467,000 jobs only add .1 to the unemployment rate?

A 1.0% loss would be 467k times 10 is 4,670,000

If 4,670,000 is 1%, what is full 100% employment?

4,670,000 times 100 (1% times 100)= 467,000,000

What am I missing?

When the VIX strikes 80 any wonder what the value will be of the SPX. We drifted under 900 and the volatility index is tamely still under 30.

If we don't take a fire hose to Congress sooner rather than later we may have to take a flamethrower to it. The leeches Inside The Beltway can't be peeled off our elected officials. The mental illness of the collective politicians has reached such epic proportions that blatant outlandish behavior has somehow weaved tolerance into the American psyche. And the American media facing their certain demise have done their part to align themselves with the leeches. What a horrible horrible vicious perpetration on the SOUL of America!

And as they plot to railroad a challenge to their power grip in the 2010 elections Americas fate may be known sooner rather than later. And it does not look promising. What in the hell is a small business supposed to do. Expand? Are you nuts? Start-ups? Are you crazy? Stay in America? ARE YOU INSANE?

There are other places in the world that would welcome the kind of American productivity and ingenuity that made us envied. If I'm going to pay taxes then you can sure as hell bet I'll give it to anyone but those narcissistic elitists in D.C. And I better get out before they do what Americans have been asking for years - close the freaking border. Except their policy will be aimed at keeping Americans in and not the impoverished out. They are already leaving.

To the Congressional "leadership: please rot in hell. Thank you.

Interesting and thoughtful article.

Disagree with your last sentence. The answer is "necessarily no," starting with a sharp fall in exchange rates.

If and as we pursue "teaching/nursing/pettiness," those will fall in value relative to real productivity. Our standard of living will decline inexorably.

We will eventually become the service-economy equivalent of a banana republic. In fact, it may be that tourism becomes our sole export, since the beauty is the only natural resource the left has not yet attacked.

The following article I wrote this morning will give you a better idea why the situation is probably going to get worse until we bring our jobs home.

http://keepamericaatwork.com/?p=2415
