It has reached levels endemic enough in the realm of the debate over health care reform, that President Obama has stepped in, and is now demanding that liberal interest groups cease their attacks on Democratic Senators who are less-than-enthusiastic about the health care proposals those groups are pushing, including a “public option” that will allow government to crowd out private enterprise in the field of health insurance.
Obviously, having gotten the attention they want, those interest groups will not stop their efforts now. And this will lead to even more infighting in Democratic circles.
If Republicans are smart, they will exploit the emerging fissures in the Democratic coalition over the ultimate shape of a health care reform package, and enhance their bargaining power. They now have a golden opportunity to do so.
