Roger Cohen reports that there may be a split amongst the members of the security forces. While the basij are more than willing to crack heads, other members of the security establishment are horrified at the thought of attacking their own people merely because those people are demonstrating for freedom and democracy. If this latter, more enlightened attitude continues to take hold, then the regime will be in big trouble indeed. That way revolutions lie.

Watch this only if you have a strong stomach, and only if you can see through the tears. Her name was “Neda.”
