This is ridiculous. Representatives and Senators are called “sir” and “ma’am” all the time by military personnel appearing before them for hearings. It is perfectly in keeping with protocol to do so, as the linked story indicates. You would think that people trumpeting their electoral prowess would not be so unbelievably touchy.
But that’s Barbara Boxer for you. Respect her authority.
