I am a little bit late to this, but addressing Time magazine’s recent contention that “the GOP is doomed, doomed, I tell ya,” it is probably worth noting, just as a general matter, that when one of the two biggest American political parties are pronounced by the mainstream media as being on the brink of self-annihilation, that is generally a sign that said party is actually on the road to a comeback. This need not be an ironclad rule, of course, but the graveyards of journalism are littered with the bleached bones of journalists and media institutions that have pronounced the demise of one or the other major political party in the United States. From that alone, one might have expected that institutions like Time would exercise a tad bit more caution before pronouncing last rites for the GOP.

However, in the event that recent journalistic misfires are not enough to cause readers to wonder that there may have been yet another misfire in this most recent case of this-is-an-ex-political-party-itis, we have both Karl from Patterico’s site and Joshua Treviño to throw cold water on Time’s analysis.

Doubtless, Joe Klein will be very upset to read these debunkings. They are convincing, after all. In related news, I am a fan of Monty Python, Monty Python is a source of great mirth and wisdom for me, and Time magazine, you are no Monty Python.
