Sometimes, it is easy to forget that there are human beings behind ginned-up scandal stories concerning the AIG bonuses. This letter should serve as a good reminder that this entire furor affects actual people with actual lives who have done nothing wrong and yet, have been caught up in the populist outrage stirred up solely for the aggrandizement of various members of the political class. AIG’s top management behaved shamefully in kowtowing before Congress on the bonus issue and throwing its employees under the bus in a desperate attempt to curry favor with Washington, Andrew Cuomo, and Richard Blumenthal. It deserves to have been taken to task by this very public resignation.
