GOP Elects First Black Chair, Barely Manages Not to Elect Member of All White Country Club

In a move likely to stun fellow Republicans for years, Party voters elected Michael Steele, former Lt. Governor of Maryland, as Party chair. Known for giving good interviews, a generally pro-life stand, good fundraising, and, to media types, being a BLACK REPUBLICAN, Steele has his work cut out for him.
